When is Thanksgiving? This year Thanksgiving is on November 28, 2024, a Thursday. The history of Thanksgiving typically learned in elementary school suggests a collaboration and unity amongst Pilgrims and Native Americans. In 1621, the Pilgrims had endured a cold winter and many became sick as a result. Once the Pilgrims settled, the Native Americans taught the Pilgrims to plant crops. When the harvesting was successful, there was a festival of three days celebrating it. This holiday became known as Thanksgiving and was officially declared by President Lincoln.

Today, many Americans celebrate Thanksgiving by gathering around hearty food and giving thanks as the Pilgrims and Native Americans did in 1621. Equipment for Turkey Pot Pie:

  • Pot
  • Stove
  • Slotted Serving Spoon
  • Plate
  • Large pan
  • Strainer
  • Cutting knife
  • 9″ round baking pan

Ingredients For Turkey Pot Pie:

  • 1 pound skinless, boneless cooked turkey – cubed
  • 1 cup sliced carrots
  • 1 cup frozen green peas
  • ⅓ cup butter
  • ⅓ cup chopped fresh yellow or white onion
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ¾ cups chicken broth or leftover turkey drippings
  • ⅔ cup milk
  • ⅓ cup gluten-free all-purpose flour blend
  • 2 ready-made pie shells
  1. Set aside pie crusts. Put all ingredients and equipment into a clean working space.
  2. Boil the carrots and peas for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, drain the water from the carrots and peas.
  3. Combine the rest of the ingredients with the carrots and peas in the same pan. Cook until the turkey and veggie mixture is thick.
  4. Fill the first pie crust 3/4 way with the mixture. Then, take the second pie crust out of the package and use it to top the pie.
  5. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the pie crust is golden brown.
  6. Cool for 15 minutes before serving. Plate and bon appetit!
