St. Anselm

Open to trying a new steak place and living on the dark side? Peter Luger's Steakhouse has been my go-to steakhouse in NY for years, but until recently I learned that there are ten highly rated steak houses in NY.  And I want to try them all.  I like to try new things. For some, Peter Luger's steak might be out of reach.  St. Anselm offers well-seasoned steak compared to Peter Lugers at a lower price point.

My fiance and I and our best friends went on a couple's date to celebrate Valentine's and a birthday at St.Anselm in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  We were all shocked by how flavorful the steak was.  It doesn't need any sauce.  Favorite dishes of the night to be ordered again are the Berkshire BaconAx handle Rib Eye, Fingerling Potatoes, and Pan-Fried Mash Potatoes.  Dishes not to order the Flatbread with herbed whipped feta and the Brocolli with ranch and breadcrumbs.  Keep in mind the Axe handle rib eye takes 45 mins + to cook and rest. If you come to this restaurant, do not expect a modern, leathered interior design as in many steakhouses throughout NYC.  It is a medieval-like tavern that specializes in grilled meats.  It has a local vibe in a gentrified neighborhood and supports local businesses. This is a plus for me as it most likely means my food is farm-raised and in this case, St. Anselm supported local farms that purveys the meats, seafood, and other menu items.  The decor is also charming and casual and you are free to be uninhibited and have a satisfying, relaxing time.  I have also noticed many couples eat at the bar as well.  Some clients seem to be revolving customers frequenting this restaurant.  St. Anselm was worth the time I spent there, the travel time, as well as the price.  According to NY Times, St. Anselm is one of the best steakhouses in NY.
